Phnom Penh
The Pavilion | $
Historic Hotel
The Pavilion is hidden away behind high white walls, guarded by little white concrete elephants just around the back of the Royal Palace. The main building of this unique little property was constructed in the mid nineteen twenties, allegedly by Queen Kossamak, King Sihanouk's mother. It is said that she chose to live here to be closer to the Botum Royal Pagoda, where she often liked to go to pray.
When you enter the compound you will immediately be taken aback, the 14 meter swimming pool area that awaits you is simply stunning. The garden is well tended and there is plenty of space and places to lounge. The 19 simple air-conditioned rooms are modern colonial in style and many have a private garden terrace and for a little extra it is possible to upgrade to one of 4 rooms with its very own private 6x3m pool. The hot water in the small bathrooms is solar powered (it takes approximately 60 seconds to get hot water to the rooms) making the hotel one of the few “greener” options in the city. Free WiFi access is available in some parts of the hotel.
This is a wonderful small resort style guesthouse full of character. It is not, nor pretends to be, a luxury four or five star hotel and offers excellent value for money. If swanky rooms and silver service is not your thing but you like historic buildings, decent facilities and a good location for the important local attractions then The Pavilion would make a good choice.
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
