The Hotel Cote Cour Beijing is centrally located in the historically-protected Yan Yue hutong area of “Old Beijing”. Yan Yue Hutong used to be the rehearsal area of the royal musicians and dancers and actors in Ming dynasty. It is just 25 minutes walk to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square (5 minutes by taxi) and an easy 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station. The Cote Cour is one of the best of the new breed of “character” hotels located in this culturally important area.
There are only 14 rooms with views to the garden or the courtyard. Each room is equipped with, Air conditioning/heating, safety deposit box, ironing board and trouser press, in-room WiFi internet, cable/satellite TV and a terrace. Guest rooms have lacquered-wood wardrobes, lantern-style light fixtures, and traditional Chinese ceramics and Tibetan rugs—but also fluffy down duvets during the winter and silk quilts during the summer. The slick modern bathroom have walk-in glass showers and freestanding basins and all come equipped with hairdryers and bathrobes – some rooms do not have a bathtub (shower only).
A chic communal lounge and bar leads to a large roof deck with a wonderful view over the nearby hutongs, the perfect place to relax after a days sightseeing. The lounge decor is a mix of modern chic and traditional Chinese and features contemporary Chinese arts and special exhibits.
The hutongs offer a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the brash city, hotels here are really no more than small B&B’s and thus do not have all the facilities of the bigger international chain hotels in the downtown areas – hence are not suitable for everyone. However, we here at Oasis much prefer the character and charm of these little hutong hideaways. Due to their limited size, if you want to stay in the Hutongs, it is always best to book early!
