The Bamboo Garden Hotel is a classical Chinese courtyard-style structure in a quiet lane west of the Drum Tower in Beijing.
It was previously the private residence of Sheng Xuanhuai, the postal department minister in late Qing Dynasty, and it was also said to be the garden of Andehai, the imperial eunuch. Since the late Qing Dynasty, a number of Beijing celebrities have also lived here.
The hotel is made up of standard rooms, junior suites, luxury suites and the classic Chinese-courtyard suite. All the rooms and suites are decorated in the simple and elegant style of the Ming & Qing Dynasty. Each room comes complete with a central air conditioning system, IDD, satellite and closed-circuit television, personal safety deposit box, refrigerator, hair drier, and advanced public security system and fire-extinguisher.
The hotel has good quality Chinese restaurant that serves genuine Sichuan and Cantonese food, a tea house and a luxury banquet hall. Other hotel services include an amenities shop, laundry room, business centre, valet, hair salon and Chinese health spa.
All staff have been well trained, have a reasonable proficiency at foreign languages and always provide a polite and cordial service. The hotel oozes local charm – there are higher level hutong hotels available but none that provide this level of value for money and character.
