HONG KONG - Destinations & Hotels
Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong Island is in the first island you see when looking south from the mainland and although it is only the second largest of the islands, the largest being Lantau Island, it is the most densely populated island with in the region of 1.3 million people living there. When it was first occupied by the Brits back in 1842 there were no more than 3000 inhabitants scattered across a dozen fishing villages! The “Central” area on the island is the historical, political and economic centre as well as being home to The Peak. The island is also home to many large shopping centres and luxury hotels and entertainment areas.
