HONG KONG - Destinations & Hotels

Kowloon

The Peninsula | $$$$$
Directors favourite hotels, Great Spa, Historic Hotel, Honeymoon, Luxury

Since first opening its rather grand doors back in the roaring 1920’s The Peninsula Hong Kong has long been hailed as one of the finest hotels in the world. The legendary "Grande Dame of the Far East" continues to set hotel standards worldwide, offering a blend of the best of Eastern and Western hospitality in an atmosphere of unmatched classical grandeur and timeless elegance. Being located on the tip of the Kowloon peninsula, with strolling distance of the world famous Star Ferry terminal and MTR station make this hotel the perfect base from where to explore Hong Kong.

The main building dating back over 80 years is now complimented by a tower extension, finished in 1994, that brought the building from a six-storey structure to a 30-storey high-rise, complete with its own helipad.

The rooms and suites are among the most spacious in Hong Kong and are furnished to the very highest standards of luxury, blending classical European grace with subtle Oriental influences. They are designed not only for their comfort and style, but also for maximum convenience, including a range of advanced technologies. Guests have a choice of rooms and suites in either the grand, historic Original Building or the more contemporary floors of The Peninsula Tower, with commanding views of the harbour and the city.

Each room has;

  • Individually controlled air conditioning
  • Remote-controlled electric curtains
  • Outside temperature and humidity indicator
  • Fully stocked minibar
  • Flat screen TV with local and international satellite channels
  • TV with video camera playback function
  • CD / VCD / DVD player
  • Separate shower and bath
  • Hairdryer
  • Daily newspaper
  • Electronic safe
The extensive offering of restaurants and bars are among the most exclusive and most elegant in Hong Kong. Afternoon tea at The Lobby is a must, while Gaddi's is the city's most luxurious fine dining French restaurant and the Philippe Starck-designed Felix is always a chic and stylish rendezvous (reservations are essential). For a little colonial nostalgia, try The Verandah, or for among the best authentic Cantonese food in town, Spring Moon.

The Peninsula Spa by ESPA offers a full range of treatments that reflect a fusion of Oriental, Ayurvedic and traditionally-inspired therapies, all delivered by highly skilled and experienced therapists who set a new benchmark for Hong Kong's spas in terms of skill, training and quality treatments. The spa is complimented by a fully equipped fitness centre and a reasonable sized indoor swimming pool. The fleet of green Rolls Royce (the largest fleet in the world) are always on hand to whisk you to where ever you need to go.

If historic hotels with slick service and great location are your parameters when choosing a hotel then the Peninsula Hong Kong would make the perfect choice. The atmosphere is quite unlike anywhere else, there is a sense of calm and relaxation in all the public areas and nothing is ever too much trouble. However if you prefer modern, chic hotels with outstanding harbour views then this may not be the best choice as there are other options that will offer the same levels of unabashed luxury, but none have the historic colonial charm of this world leader of hotels!

This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
