HONG KONG - Destinations & Hotels

Hong Kong Island

Lan Kwai Fong Hotel | $$$$
Character Boutique

Lan Kwai Fong is a small square of streets in Central and Western district on Hong Kong Island. Before the Second World War the area was inhabited by hawkers, but slowly transformed in the mid 1980s. Nowadays, it’s a popular expat gathering centre with a notably cosmopolitan atmosphere. As well as being ultra-convenient for eating and drinking there is  a wealth of great shopping right on the door step.

The uniquely designed hotel is modern in style with Chinese accents. Inconspicuously occupying 33 floors of a high rise this carefully conserved commercial and residential area, the hotel's 158 bedrooms and 5 individually designed Harbour View Suites located on the top 2 floors are decorated in a distinctive oriental style. Each room's furniture, fabrics and artefacts have been carefully chosen to provide striking individuality.

Each room has;

  • Flat screen TV
  • High speed internet access
  • Rain shower
  • Bathrobes, hairdryer, slippers
  • Minibar
  • Coffee and Tea making facilities
  • In room electronic safe deposit box
  • Temperature control

Breakfast is taken at Breeze cafe, al fresco when weather permits, and drinks and snacks are available on the terrace throughout the rest of the day. The main restaurant is well known among locals and expats and serves some of the best top class authentic Chinese fare on the island.

There is a small well equipped gym that is operational 24 hours a day as well as an in room massage which offers foot reflexology and traditional Chinese Body Massages.

Lan Kwai Fong is, in our opinion, the beating heart of Hong Kong Island. The choice of fine dining – and drinking – options is staggering, but the area has retained its old world Chinese charm and the development has complimented the area rather than just make it tacky or overwhelming. The hotel itself is funky and trendy but still has a very discernable Chinese twist. The nearby shopping and it only being a short stroll to the Star Ferry are also a bonus!

This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
