Vientiane
Settha Palace Hotel | $$$$
Character Boutique, Historic Hotel
Originally constructed in 1932, the luxurious Settha Palace Hotel has been restored to its former charm. Re-opened in 1999, French colonial architecture, period furniture, and landscaped gardens are some of the features of this historical landmark in the heart of Vientiane. The hotel is located right in the city centre, within walking distance of the commercial district, shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. It is 10 minutes drive from the International Airport and 25 minutes drive to Friendship Bridge on the Thai border.
As is the building, all 29 rooms and suites are presented in an elegant French colonial style and feature exposed solid wood floors, high ceilings and many with comfortable 2 poster beds dressed with down feather pillows and crisp white linen. All rooms also come complete with coffee table and 2-seater sofa. The bathrooms are stylish marble with separate shower and bathtub. There is satellite TV, an in room safe and minibar. Unusually for Laos there is also wireless internet access available in all guestrooms and throughout most of the hotel should you need to stay in touch with the outside world.
There is a choice of two dining outlets, La Belle Époque, where you can enjoy classical French cuisine or choose from a seasonally-inspired Lao menu showcasing the distinct flavours of the local harvest or the Sidewalk café which offers Asian and International dishes. You may also enjoy light snacks sitting by the swimming pool. For those who just can not leave the office behind them the business centre has fax, internet and e-mail services, secretarial service and multilingual staff and two work stations with personal computers, printers and scanner.
The Settha Palace is the trend setter and leader in accommodation in the capital. It is by far the most expensive, but every time we travel to Vientiane we pay the extra to stay here. With the shortage of decent accommodation in the city it is wise to book early. We just love the colonial decadence and history attached to this hotel and it’s one of the few with decent service and a swimming pool.
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
