This hotel was once the home to Laotian royalty and is located just off Namphou Square, right in the heart of Luang Prabang. It has easy access to the city’s key attractions such as the Royal Palace, Mekong River and Mount Phu Si, the 100-meter-high rocky outcrop, with its stunning views of the surrounding temples and hills. Wat Xieng Thong, one of the oldest, most beautiful and most important temples in Laos, is within easy walking distance.
The hotel offers a choice of intimate accommodation that has been decorated with a touch of the contemporary. There are two wings to choose from. "La Residence" invites you to tread in the footsteps of Prince Souvannaphouma, whose former home has been converted into three luxurious rooms. The Garden Wing Rooms feature interior design that is modern and yet evocative of the colonial era. They each have their own balcony with a view of either the pool or the well maintained gardens. All rooms are air-conditioned, enjoy an en-suite bathroom and have free wireless Internet access. With a total of just 25 rooms you are always assured of great service.
The enchanting "Elephant Blanc" restaurant serves mouth-watering French, Laotian and Indochinese cuisine in a serene setting by the small pool, or you can also choose to dine in the comfort of your room. The Angsana Spa proffers complete privacy and tranquillity, where you may shed the cares of the world while being pampered from head to toe.
This hotel is centrally located and great for anyone wanting to stay in an historical building and be able to walk to the many temples, markets, bars and restaurants. Of the historic hotels in Luang Prabang, the rooms here in our opinion are relatively over priced, but with the lack of accommodation available at this level, Maison Souvannaphoum remains one of our firm favourites.
