Villa Laodeum | $
This little guesthouse is located directly on the street that is also home to the famous night bazaar, just steps away from many of the best bars and restaurants in town as well as being meters away from the Mekong River and the Royal Palace. There is also an interesting temple just behind the building allowing you to see the monks in the early morning collecting alms from the comfort of your room.
The renovated villa has just 8 double rooms, all decorated in the traditional Lao style. All of them offer en suite facilities, air-conditioned, cable TV and minibar. Rooms on the ground floor open directly on to a small terrace overlooking the street. The rooms are comfortable and stylish.
There are no facilities to speak of other than a small library on the upper floor and no restaurant. They do however provide breakfast and can advise on tours in and around Luang Prabang.
We at Oasis do not normally recommend guesthouse accommodation, but we make an exception with Villa Laodeum and the reason for this is the owner manager. He is one of the nicest people to run a guesthouse we have ever met. After a stay here you will leave having made a friend. The rooms are clean and functional and extremely good value. The perfect choice for the more budget conscious traveller. The free bananas and coffee are also a nice touch!
