This historic hotel is situated on grounds of the Xiengkeo Palace which belonged to a famous hero of Luang Prabang, Prince Phetsarath. He chose the location for tranquillity, its dramatic views of the mighty Mekong River and the remarkable mountainous landscape surrounding Luang Prabang. It is located approximately 4km from the town centre.
The hotel comprises 76 luxurious rooms and 2 suites, all gracefully decorated. The resort is spread out over a huge open space and you do not get the feeling of it ever being full. The rooms all have a balcony overlooking the immaculate gardens and mighty Mekong River. Each has individually controlled air conditioning, hair dryer, IDD telephone, minibar, TV with choices of international satellite programmes and large en suite marble bathrooms.
There are two restaurants both featuring the best of regional Lao, Thai and International dishes. Both restaurants have indoor and outdoor dining options and one with an indoor fire for the cooler winter months. The Sunset Bar is a great spot to watch the sun dip between the two surrounding mountains.
As with Santi Resort this resort is a little isolated but as the smaller boutique properties in the town get full well in advance - this is an excellent option for those wanting good quality accommodation but can not be flexible with travel dates. Set in beautiful grounds and with stunning views of the Mekong this is a great alternative. The historic element to the property is an added bonus, although this is reflected in the hotel rates and it does not have a pool.
