4000 Islands
Senesothxuen Hotel | $
Senesothxuen Hotel is located about 500 meters from the boat pier on Khong Island in the picturesque area known as 4000 islands in the remote southern reaches of the country not far from the Cambodia border. The area is well known to backpackers but now with some slightly more upmarket accommodation is open to the more discerning traveller looking to experience this wonderful location.
The rooms are minimalist but clean with en suite facilities and most with views to the Mekong River and the surrounding islands. Every room has a colour TV (though the channel selection is limited unless you speak Lao!), air-conditioning, minibar and even wireless internet connection (some of the time).
The small restaurant serves authentic Lao cuisine from its open kitchen. Activities run from just taking in the views, the spectacular sunrises and sunsets and generally strolling or cycling about the islands. Boat trips are another popular pastime, as is going in quest of the often elusive Irrawaddy dolphins.
This is probably the best hotel in the region with only the location letting it down a little, as we prefer the atmosphere on the smaller islands. But with everything in such close proximity getting around and exploring is not a problem.
Be patient in this area as tourism is very new and service levels leave a bit to be desired but you will receive a warm welcome and leave with a camera full of fantastic images and some great memories. These are the places that make travelling such an adventure!
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
