This traditional yet funky hotel occupies two rows of Indochinese shop houses, separated by a working shop, and is located right in the middle of town, overlooking the Nam Khan River. It is one of only a few places to stay along this particular river and offers great views, especially at sunrise. Away from the busy tourist areas and yet within easy walking distance, The Apsara makes an ideal base from where to explore this fascinating small city.
The rooms are divided in to two buildings and over two levels. Oasis will always try to book the upper floor Superior Rooms as they are the largest and best appointed. Each has reclaimed teakwood floors and the style of the decor is uncomplicated and elegant, which generally sums up the hotel as a whole. There are no TV’s, stereos or fancy communication systems. There are no twin rooms but the day beds can convert in to a single for those no wanting to share. The bathrooms are very dated but in keeping with the property and have full size bath tubs encased by wood and the bath towels are huge and fluffy and inviting.
The restaurant is excellent and gained a good reputation throughout the city and even though there are so many choices in town you should dine here at least once during your stay. The food is local Lao in style but with unexpected European touches. The wine list is also excellent offering a selection from both the new and old world.

The Apsara is the Oasis Travel premier choice for Luang Prabang. In our opinion the combination of décor, service, location and value prevails over all its competition. The downsides are that the walls are a little thin and because of wooden floors you can hear your neighbours but that said the multitude of positives outweigh these negatives ten times over.
