This new lodge, set in a lush landscape and exotic gardens, is located on Dong Daeng Island, an island in the Mekong River well known for its exceptional natural beauty and unspoilt charm. It sits on a secluded river beach facing towards the historic ruined Khmer temples of Wat Phou and has been designed to offer magnificent views of the Mekong from everywhere in the resort where it be the rooms, restaurant, bar or swimming pool. The lodge is approximately 40 km from Pakse Airport.
The 24 large, comfortable bedrooms, luxuriously decorated and exquisitely furnished with local materials, are housed in 12 bungalows set in a magnificently landscaped tropical garden. Each room has its own balcony with stunning views over the Mekong and the sacred hills of Wat Phou. Daily vistas of superb sunsets and traditional scenes of fishermen in hollowed out tree canoes await you.
The poolside restaurant, open-aired but sheltered by a graceful wooden roof, offers continental cuisine and Asian specialities, from early morning breakfast to late-night snacks complimented by a well stocked bar. The Lodge’s swimming pool is the ideal spot to cool off after basking in the hot sun or a days sightseeing. For the more adventurous, bicycle rides, boat tours or simply walking around the island will afford unforgettable encounters with friendly local inhabitants. The famous archaeological site of Wat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just a 20-minute boat ride away. La Folie Lodge also organizes traditional ceremonies (baci) to celebrate special events in the Laotian calendar.
Visiting the famous ruins of Wat Phou had always been an issue as before this lodge opened the accommodation in Pakse and Champasak was extremely limited, but La Folie has solved the problem by providing an excellent retreat in a stunning spot. The swimming pool is one of the very few in this remote corner of the world and that alone has made this lodge a firm favourite with Oasis!
La Folie Lodge will be closed for the months of August and September in 2009.
