This excellent lodge is located in the heart of Borneo’s Wildlife Conservation Area, along the banks of the Kinabatangan River, home to an amazing world of wildlife in its natural surrounds. The lodge is native styled and was designed to blend in with the surroundings of the tropical rainforest. It is generally accessed from Sandakan via a two hour drive followed by a short boat journey.
The individual bungalows are located in well tended grounds and surround the main building which houses the reception and restaurant. They are all en suite with air conditioning but little else in the way of creature comforts, but that said are clean and more than adequate for a couple of nights. The restaurant serves buffet style breakfast lunch and diner of a reasonable standard.
The Proboscis Lodge is the perfect base from where to explore this amazing wildlife rich region. Don’t have high expectations of the accommodation and you will not be disappointed. Staying in this remote are is about the wildlife – not comfort and luxury. We at Oasis just love this little lodge and can not recommend it highly enough!
