For anyone serious about seeing the orang utans in their natural habitat Oasis Travel recommends staying near the rehabilitation centre. Our top pick of the handful of accommodation options within walking distance of the project is the Sepilok Nature Resort. It is just a few minutes walk from the jungle clad orang utan centre in the Sepilok Forest Reserve.

The resort itself is set in the spectacular greenery of tropical plants, huge trees and orchid gardens. It is built in traditional wooden style with contemporary touches and whilst not five star luxury the rooms are more than adequate and very comfortable. The rooms are all fully air-conditioned twin bed chalets that feature striking lake or jungle views and private verandas. Guest can enjoy delicious set meals of an east meets west fusion variety served in the central building.

Whilst there is little in the way of facilities such as swimming pool or spa, this lovely small resort makes the ideal base for an overnight stay near the orang utan rehab centre. You will be free to walk down to see these magnificent beasts up close and personal in the afternoon - away from the large tour groups that visit each morning. The resort is rustic but clean and friendly.
