Gayana Eco Resort | $$$
Eco-friendly
Gayana Eco Resort rests serenely at the edges of a lush jungle forest on a coral reef island off the coast of Borneo. The forty-four over-water, tropical villas are architecturally designed to enhance the soothing sounds of the surf below while capturing the enduring vistas of Mt. Kinabalu on the distant horizon. The island has superb beaches; walking trails through the rainforest where you will see an array of bird life, wild boar, monitor lizards and possibly some macaque monkeys and great snorkelling. The resort here also has a dive centre where you can arrange to do some diving around the other islands of the marine park.
The resorts 44 chalets are linked by an attractive walkway, with the semi-detached stilted and thatched chalets of Gayana surrounded by pots of Bougainvillier. The rooms feature Balinese inspired design, with handmade furniture from across Indonesia. Each air-conditioned room has a private veranda area with inviting sun loungers where you can relax and unwind. All rooms have a mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, safety deposit box, and LCD television. The rooms are divided into four categories. With jungle and hill views, the Rimba rooms are the lead in category with attractive furnishings and standard amenities. Whilst the rooms have a private veranda this faces the boardwalk running around the resort. Upgrades are available if required.
The Alu Alu Restaurant has attractive views across Malohom Bay and specialises in serving fresh seafood dishes. The poolside restaurant, Fusion, is open throughout the day and serves guests from its theatre-style open. Finally the Gaya Lounge provides guests with a wonderful place to relax with a drink and somewhere to watch the sunset over the resort.
One of the best eco style lodges in Borneo! The resort is striving to save the ecology that provides its income in refreshingly new ways. Excellent quality rooms, superb food and great diving/snorkelling – Highly recommended!
