Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island located three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia along the Straits of Malacca. Travel to the resort is either by air – fly to Pangkor Island and ferry to Pangkor Laut - or a 3 hour drive from KL followed a ferry ride to Pangkor Laut or if you really want to arrive in style take a helicopter journey from KL’s Subang Airport. You will find no other resorts on the island only peace and tranquillity.
The accommodation is spread out in the northeast corner of the island. The different styles of bungalow include hillside and garden villas which are housed in double storey units, whilst the beach villas are stand alone units just steps away from the beach. Sea Villas stand elegantly on stilts over the sea and are linked by wooden walkways; these villas are the signature feature of the island. Each private villa is airy and spacious, has a large balcony with deck chairs and a bathroom with an oversized tub that opens onto the sea.
There is a choice of 6 restaurants and bars to chose from, all of the highest quality. Food is core to any stay at Pangkor Laut, ingredients not available on the island are all freshly delivered on a daily basis for the chefs to create local, Asian, Western and fusion dishes that will tantalise your taste buds. There are also numerous options for romantic private dining. There is a lot to keep guests busy, should you so desire, including cooking classes, batik courses, yoga, tai chi, fishing and water sports.
As well as the luxurious accommodation, fine food and abundance of activities another principal draw to the resort is the spa. The Spa Village is a unique retreat that extols the healing cultures of the region. It comprises of a number of specially built structures designed to facilitate an extensive range of treatments from China, Japan, India, Thailand, Bali and Malaysia. For those really serious about taking a dedicated spa break there are 22 Spa Villas situated over the sea offer that direct access to the Spa Village facilities.
This is one of Oasis Travels favourite resorts in the region. Even when the resort is fully booked, and it often is, it never feels at all crowded as it is the only resort on the island and the layout is cleverly designed with privacy a key consideration. The food is wonderful and the spa has won pretty much every award going. You will probably regret not staying at least a week!
