The Datai takes pride of place on a long stretch of powdery white-sand beach carefully secluded in a 750 hectare virgin rainforest on the northwestern tip of mystical Langkawi Island. The resort is, justifiably in our opinion, renown as one of the best in Malaysia – if not the whole of Asia.
Featuring 54 deluxe rooms, 40 villas and 18 suites nestled amidst lush rainforests and a private stretch of sandy shore facing the breathtaking Andaman Sea, The Datai is an idyllic natural retreat. Even though there are over 100 rooms, due to their dispersed nature, the resort never feels overcrowded or busy, even at peak times.
Each of well-appointed rooms, villas and suites has a sizeable bedroom, living area, private verandas and an amazing view of the natural landscape. Each of the Deluxe Rooms features a combined bedroom and living area with balcony. Additional facilities include two comfortable day beds, a private bar, and a spacious bathroom with dressing area, twin vanities, a bathtub and shower. The Superior Villas offer a much larger interior and 37" LCD flat screen TV, DVD player, Bose CD sound system & Lavazza coffee machine. If you really want to treat yourself there are also a series of Suites to choose from including the 4 spectacular Pool Suites.
There are two wonderful restaurants in the main resort area serving Thai, Malay and western food, an adult only Lobby lounge serving cocktails and snacks and, The Beach Club offers themed evenings and BBQ’s in an outdoor setting next to one of the pools near the beach. Whilst the resort is very family friendly they do insist that children under 12 use a dedicated swimming pool leaving the main pool free for adults to relax by. The spa is beautifully integrated into the lush surroundings of the tropical rainforest. Select from a wide-ranging menu of exquisite spa treatments by expert and nurturing hands, to relax, rejuvenate and revitalize for a sense of overall well being. There is an exclusive 18-hole championship golf course very close to the resort.
The Datai is simply put – superb! The service is as good as you will find anywhere and the overall quality – from the rooms to the food is excellent. The only minor draw backs are that some of the rooms are set deep in the jungle making them a little dark, but after all why would you be spending the day in your room anyway and the monkeys can be a little “cheeky”, so keep your windows and doors closed. The resort has a strong contingent of repeat guests, so make sure you book early. The Datai is not cheap, but is it good value? – it most certainly is!
