This small character boutique hotel is located in the stroll away from Malacca's historical precinct. The hotel, originally built in 1822, was once the ancestral home of a very successful Chinese merchant named Tam Kin Seng. His grandson then rebuilt it in 1876. The refurbishment of the building to a hotel came much later but extreme care was taken to conserve the unique architecture and character of the building including the mosaic flooring.

The unique character unfortunately is reserved only for the public areas of the hotel; the rooms are basic and uninspiring but functional and clean. Each of the 82 rooms and suites comes complete with air-conditioning, cable TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There are a couple of dining outlets in the hotel and alternatives within walking distance. There is wireless broadband available in the lobby and the café. A small spa is also on hand should you be requiring a back rub!

The Puri is by far Oasis Travels pick of the Malacca hotels. This elegant Chinese manor house has so much more character than the alternative soulless international class hotels. The facilities are limited but that is more than compensated for in charm and ambience. Being near the riverside restaurants and bars and proximity to Chinatown make this hotel the perfect choice.
