After almost a century of neglect this unique mansion, built by a famous Chinese merchant - Cheong Fatt Tze also known as China’s last mandarin and first capitalist, has been lovingly restored to its former glory. The renovation was so successful it was the winner of the UNESCO Conservation Award 2000. "La Maison Blue" as it is sometimes known has been the location for several films including "Indochine".
The mansion has 38 rooms that are grouped around 5 courtyards of which just 16 are available to stay in. Each individually themed air-conditioned room is unique; they are all different sizes and have been decorated in different styles. Common facilities include 2 archive rooms that chart the fascinating history of the building and families that have lived in it, a TV room, manicured gardens and a lovely courtyard where alfresco breakfast is taken. Free WiFi brings the mansion well in to the 21st century.
The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is the ultimate for those wanting to “live history”. The whole building has been wonderfully restored to its former glory by expert craftsmen. The “feng shui” design and meticulous attention to detail have created a serene atmosphere that will surpass any expectation you may have. And whilst there are no in room TV’s, swimming pools or obligatory spa - this is certainly one of Oasis Travel’s best kept little secrets that will have you yearning to return!
