Bagan Thande Hotel is positioned in the south-west corner of the ancient walled city of Bagan on the eastern bank of the River Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) inside Bagan Archaeological Zone. In terms of location it is one of the best, as it is away from the noisy developed new city and several well-known Buddhist Monuments are within walking distance. The hotel is set within well tended gardens with fabulous views of the famous river.
The original two storey building was built in 1922, for the then Prince of Wales of Britain when he visited Bagan. It is the only building of such prominence in the ancient city. When available however, we use the Deluxe Riverview rooms which have been built into the banks of the river with floor to ceiling glass fronts affording spectacular views. All rooms are spacious and furnished meticulously with teakwood, fine fabrics and traditional handcrafts and come equipped with modern amenities such as satellite T.V, minibar and air-conditioning.
The riverside restaurant serves good quality European, Chinese & Myanmar cuisine accompanied by live classical Burmese music and traditional puppet. The resort has a great swimming pool with Jacuzzi, poolside bar, a small massage area and coffee shop.
This is a wonderful hotel full of history and the river view rooms are in our opinion still the best value and best located in Bagan. However, they do get booked up in advance. The setting is pleasant, the restaurant of reasonable quality and best of all the pagodas are just a stones throw away and the sunsets over the Ayeyarwady River from your terrace can be quite simply astounding!
