MYANMAR (BURMA) - Destinations & Hotels
Bagan
Thiripyitsaya Sakura Hotel | $$$
The hotel is in a splendid spot perched on the on the banks of the River Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy), in lovely gardens and within the Bagan Archaeological Zone - making the temples very accessible.
The 76 rooms and villas are spread over 24 acres. All are decorated in Myanmar style, with an abundance of wood and local materials. Verandas surround the rooms and suites, several looking out to the river. Terrazzo bathtubs in the suites allow one to soak while enjoying peaceful river views. A full range of facilities are provided in the rooms from personal safes, mini-bars, individual air-conditioning controls, satellite TV to kimonos and hairdryers.
European, Myanmar, and Japanese cuisine is offered in the Nadi Restaurant, Sunset Terrace, the Veranda Grill & Bar and the Pagoda Garden restaurants, all complimented with a reasonable wine list. Should you not wish to venture out in-room dining is also available.
If the pool is high on your list of priorities you will find the largest outdoor swimming pool in Bagan at the Thiripyitsaya. The wide pool deck offers ample space for relaxing and stretching out and from which river vistas can be enjoyed. With the pool oriented to the west, sunset is an exhilarating sight. The spa has recently been upgraded and, after a day of exploring the temples in the heat, a good massage is an idyllic way to relax.
A good option close to the temples. The lowest category rooms are not particularly worth the money and are in need of renovation but the suites, although relatively costly, are superb. Don’t be put off by not being able to pronounce the name!
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
