Kalaw & Pindaya
In the days of the British occupation Kalaw was a popular hill station retreat. The area is populated by Nepalese and Indians, which is reflected in the cuisine, as well as local hill tribe people. The colonial architecture mixed with the stunning alpine forests make this a great place to visit. It is an excellent base for walking in the cool picturesque mountains.
Walks can be tailored to suit ranging from day walks to longer overnight treks. Positioned between Inle Lake and Kalaw is Pindaya, a peaceful town famous for its caves in which thousands of centuries-old Buddha images are seated. The road from Kalaw to Pindaya passes through Pa-O villages and countryside of magnificent scenic beauty. Pindaya is also known for the Shan paper and monk umbrella makers.

This colonial residence, originally built in 1909, was restored in 2002. The faithful restoration took in to account the original design and stayed true to its design.
