This spectacular resort is nestled amongst coconut palms on the pristine beach frontage of Ngapali Beach in the Bay of Bengal. The hotel has been designed by a famous Italian architect and everything purpose built. It is just a 45 minute flight from Yangon to this wonderful 10km long stretch of beach. The resort is located at the end of a strip of other lesser quality hotels and a minutes walk from a small fishing village and 25 minutes from the historical town of Thandwe.
The luxurious resort consists of 55 Villas & Cottages, scattered throughout a 6 acre tropical garden with a 450 meters beach front. The resort is designed with traditional South East Asian elegance and constructed with local materials including various kinds of hard wood, stone carving and marble. Real attention to detail has been applied, even down to not having to put up with the noise of a refrigerator; instead you have an ice chest which is topped a few times per day!
The hotel has a fabulous Italian Restaurant serving classic Italian favourites but any other style of cuisine is limited, there are however other options along the beachfront. There is a swimming pool and library on hand but little else, the resort is designed as a place to sit back and relax. There is even a 9-hole golf course just ten minutes away.
We just loved our time at this relaxing resort just doing nothing! If it is activities and keeping busy you are looking for may we suggest a Thai beach as an alternative. The rooms and villas are simply stunning and the service, although a little hit and miss, was always with a smile. The downside would be the focus on all things Italian and the remote location but if, like us, you are quite happy with that The Sandoway could just be that perfect beach retreat you have always been looking for!
