Amata Ngapali Beach Resort | $$$
The Amata Resort was designed by the state-of-the-art-New York architectural firm, Spine, with a brief to capture the languid beauty of a traditionally Asian setting. The Amata resort has every 5 star facility that a traveller could wish for as well as Myanmar architecture, lush gardens and cool river breeze. The result is an exquisitely modern resort positioned directly on the waters edge of one of the most spectacular beaches in the region.
The accommodation is well spread out and divided in to various categories. There is no huge traditional style hotel block rather the rooms are split in to individual buildings with superior being below the slightly larger deluxe rooms and the Cabana and Grand Cabana being stand alone two storey wooden bungalows with outdoor bathtubs and the only difference being the sea view from the more expensive Grand Cabanas. All rooms are romantically decorated and fare equipped with coffee and tea facilities as well as satellite television and DVD players upon request.
The restaurant offers a sumptuous selection of local, regional and continental cuisines including regional Rakhine dishes which can all be followed by the resorts own homemade ice cream. The bar stocks an extensive range of beverages served in an idyllic setting. If a soothing therapy for mind, body and soul is required why not try The Amata Spa. The spa provides many styles of massages from traditional massage, to foot reflexology or you may choose to simply relax by the excellent pool. A small business centre can provide occasional connection to the outside world should you require.
The resort is a slightly better value option to our other choices on Ngapali Beach, however the modernistic design doesn’t quite work. We have not had any complaints from clients but when we visited there just seemed to be something missing in atmosphere. Having said that said, the Grand Cabanas are one of our favourite options in Ngapali.
