For anyone who prefers not to dive or does not like the “live aboard” experience there is a resort in the heart of the archipelago that besides dive excursions can arrange things such as kayaking, bird watching, snorkelling and fishing trips, or you may just want to relax on the beach whilst a partner or friend heads of an underwater adventure!

Due to the lack of accommodation options and awkward accessibility you will not find many tourists in this remote part of the country, but make the effort and your stay at this 22-chalet resort is a unique desert-island experience. This property may be “pure luxury” but the unequalled location is something that other hotels can be jealous of.

Located on Fork or Macleod Island, the resort is the only habitation on the island and has been built in keeping with the islands natural surrounds. There are none of the usual 5 star trappings such as TV’s, DVD players or swimming pools and the resort stays true to its eco credentials by using a bio sanitary system and all the buildings are constructed from natural and locally-sourced materials. The rooms are comfortable, with ceiling fans and basic en suite facilities. The restaurant serves simple local food with the emphasis on seafood. The resort is reached either by a short boat ride from Ranong in Thailand or through Kawthaung via Yangon.
