This wonderful imposing teak mansion hotel dating from the 1920s is located in the elegant and quiet Embassy Quarter away from the noisy town centre yet just a few minutes drive to the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda and ten minutes from the city centre. The hotel makes a great relaxing base from where to explore the city’s great cultural attractions, including golden pagodas, the fascinating National Museum and lively Bogyoke Market.
The hotel offers forty-five Deluxe Rooms, two Junior Suites, and a Family Suite all luxuriously decorated with teak furniture, tropical cottons and silks and each has a large handmade, free-form bath. Each room is luxuriously decorated with rich cottons and silks with views to the private lotus garden. Air-conditioning, hairdryer, minibar and personal safe also come as standard.
Dining is always a stylish affair at the Mandalay Restaurant. Discover the exotic local cuisine of Myanmar, with its subtly blended spices and flavours. Alternatively, select one of the Western specialities from the menu created by the expatriate Chef, offering both European classics and French cuisine with a local twist. There is also a poolside menu available throughout the day for lighter meals.
A beautiful feature of the Governor's Residence is the fan-shaped swimming pool which is set in a stunning garden and comes complete with comfortable sunbeds. The hotel also runs a great cooking school on the premises where you will first accompany the chef to the market before preparing the food which is then yours and your classmates to dine on.
The Governor’s Residence is a little tucked away - but don’t let that put you off as it is definitely one of our favourite hotels in Asia. The rooms and the service are first class and the ambient garden setting makes for a relaxing retreat following any of the day’s activities.
