The Savoy is ideally located in a picturesque area of Yangon very close to the central attraction known as the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Peoples Park and just 10 minutes drive from the city centre. The Savoy is designed in a classic, colonial style with a unique blend of teak wood and traditional European and Burmese furnishings and antiques creating an intimate atmosphere like a private club.
Each of the guestrooms are comfortably furnished in a colonial-style using wooden fittings and decorated with traditional Myanmar antiques. The bathrooms are airy and spacious as well as being beautifully appointed. All the services expected of a luxury hotel are offered such as satellite TV, minibar and air-conditioning as well as a few surprise extras like unpacking service upon arrival (on request) and a complimentary pressing service. Most rooms look out towards the swimming pool and have a small balcony.
The hotel has two restaurants. Kipling’s is one of the cities finest Asian fusion style restaurants but the thing that makes it so extraordinary is the terrace view across to the awe inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda – it is particularly special in the evening when it is lit up. Rossini Italian Restaurant is a recent addition to the hotel, where as well as enjoying homemade Italian fare, you have access to possibly the most impressive wine list in the country, even some from Myanmar - which we are yet to try! There is also a small café which serves a very acceptable traditional British Afternoon High Tea.
The Savoy is a great option for anyone who enjoys contemporary colonial style hotels and likes to be within walking distance of the main landmarks. The city centre is only a 10 minute drive away so access by taxi is straightforward, however make sure you take a hotel card written in the local language to show taxi drivers in order to get back!
