Peru - DESTINATIONS & HOTELS

The Lares Adventure

Deep in the Sacred Valley north of Cusco, the Lares Valley offers an authentic slice of Peruvian life where herds of alpacas and llamas roam amidst Inca ruins, breathtaking mountain scenery and traditional weaving communities. For walkers, Lares offers an alternative to the Inca Trail, a wonderful 4 day trek to Machu Picchu, especially popular when Inca Trail permits have sold out. However, Lares is far more than just a trekking destination and has been chosen for “Mountain Lodges of Peru’s” (MLP) second lodge to lodge experience – the Lares Adventure.

Here, guests can enjoy a 5 or 7 day, lodge-to-lodge journey to reach Machu Picchu and a wonderful mix of adventure and Andean culture amidst breathtaking natural scenery. Hike to remote passes through a panorama of waterfalls, snow peaks, and turquoise glacial lakes and visit tiny Andean communities unchanged for centuries, where you can meet local weavers and farmers.

Each day, you can choose from a range of guided activities from walking, biking and scenic drives to visits to remote Inca ruins and mountain hamlets. Best of all, at the end of the day, there is no tent but instead a comfortable lodge replete with jacuzzis, delicious cuisine and roaring fires.

There are currently 2 small Mountain lodges along the trail – Lamay and Huacawasi Lodge – each built using natural local materials from adobe bricks and high wooden beams designed to blend in with the environment.
