The Andean Explorer Train: Cusco to Puno
The Andean Explorer is one of the great rail journeys in South America and runs three times a week (four in high season) from Cusco to Puno and vice versa across the spectacular highland altiplano. The journey takes around 9 hours and reaches at an altitude of 4313 metres above sea-level at its highest point at La Raya, making a stop for travellers to admire the distant snow-capped mountains and colonial chapel
Operated by PeruRail in conjunction with the Orient Express group, the Andean Explorer recreates the classic style of the Pullman carriages of the 1920’s and features an elegant dining car and panoramic observatory wagon at the back.
Fine-dining is offered during the journey and the service also includes afternoon tea and even a fashion show of the traditional regional costumes.
This is a wonderful experience, a real highlight of Peruvian travel. Please do ask your Oasis Travel consultant as to how to best fit it into your trip.
