The 121 room Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa is nestled on a hillside, surrounded by 3.5 hectares of gardens and natural tropical rainforest, which is home to monkeys, peacocks and parrots as well as other native flora and fauna. The resort is located on the site of the historic British Sergeants' Quarters that were built in the 1930s. Two of the buildings are restored colonial heritage buildings which now house the Veranda and Courtyard suites. The resort has its own tennis court, jogging track and three outdoor pools, one of which - the roof-top infinity pool that overlooks the ocean - is reserved exclusively for adult guests. This contemporary resort is designed by Japanese architect Masaki Miyake, who focused on clean lines and uncluttered design in a natural palette of colours that blend with the resort natural tropical setting.

Dining options include the all-day Shutters Restaurant; serving modern intercontinental cuisine, Thanying; an authentic Royal Thai restaurant and Si Bon, a wonderful boutique Japanese restaurant in a former military chapel (seating only 13 inside and 10 outside) serving the authentic Japanese delicacy Kushikatsu or “skewer cuisine” which is unusual outside Japan and the only one of its kind in Singapore, booking recommended!
