Shanghai Mansion | $$
Character Boutique
After opening its doors in 2006, the Shanghai Mansion has become known for its idiosyncratic interior design and the fact that is one of very few hotels located in colourful Chinatown. The hotel, found on the 4th and 5th floors above a shopping mall, was designed by famed architect Julian Coombs and is a celebration of Oriental architecture complimented with outstanding Shanghianese décor, creating a uniquely hip boutique hotel. The colour scheme and style is unmistakably Chinese influenced, with scattered deep-red silk cushions, complimented by lanterns, umbrellas and bird cages hanging from the ceilings.
There are 55 rooms in total, 51 Superior rooms (25 sqm) and 4 Junior Suites (35 sqm).
Each room has:
- Free in room WiFi
- Carved wooden four-poster beds, silk cushions, polished concrete floors, decorated rugs and red and lilac painted walls
- Cable television
- Refrigerator stocked with bottled water (other drinks can be purchased from the supermarket downstairs)
- Chinese tea-making facilities
- Air-conditioning
- Electronic safety box,
We would not recommend this hotel to all, if you plan to spend time lounging and relaxing at the hotel this is probably not the place for you as there is little in the way of public areas and the rooms are a little small and dark (the majority of rooms look in to the atrium) and no swimming pool. There is a dazzling array of Chinese and Thai food just seconds from the front door. We would recommend this hotel to people who enjoy staying in a designer-character boutique base located in an authentic area of town away from the average holiday maker and will be spending most of their time out and about exploring the many delights Bangkok has to offer.
A taste of 1930's Shanghai located in the heart of bustling Chinatown!
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
