Issarn (North-eastern Thailand)
Anyone wanting to get right off the tourist trail in Thailand needs look no further than the Issarn Region. The area is rich in culture and famed for its food, however the region is by far the poorest in Thailand and the infrastructure is basic as are the hotel options. There is little in the way of established tourism in the area. The main reason for heading to the area is for a land crossing in to Laos.
