Rain Forest Resort (Phitsanulok) | $$

This small resort is located to the east of the town of Phitsanulok and makes a great place to stop off for a night if travelling overland from Bangkok to either Sukhothai or Chiang Mai. It is in a region of the country that will give a different prospective to Thai life.

The resort’s owner wants others to appreciate the wonder of the Thai rainforest landscape and designed the resort to blend in with this natural environment and to cause minimal disturbance to it. Guests are welcomed to the forest and encouraged to explore the surrounds to see native birds and animals close at hand. The resort is in a quite riverside location, and the pretty Kangsong Waterfall is just a few minutes walk.

All resort accommodation features comfortable beds with spacious bedrooms, modern bathrooms and spacious living areas. Most cottages have private verandas to give you the feeling of staying right within a rain forest. There is a selection of accommodation but we recommend the 17 well designed cottages and suites that are nestled discreetly throughout the resort amongst trees and ponds and some overlook the waterfall and river, making the Rain Forest Resort the ideal retreat for nature-lovers. All furniture and fittings has been designed with the atmosphere of the rain forest in mind but with some modern European influence.

Rainfern restaurant is designed like a large open tropical tree house with all tables having views of the rainforest. Spread over four levels, there are aquariums and greenery surrounding the central waterfall and pool. An extensive Thai menu is featured and the specialty is local freshwater fish and make sure you try the excellent locally grown coffee.

Activities include river rafting, nature hikes or bicycle rides, visiting an elephant camp, or relaxing at the resort's spa.
