Lisu Lodge (1 hour from Chiang Mai) | $$$
Remote location
Just an hour’s drive north of Chiang Mai, situated in a verdant valley amongst fertile paddy fields, this award-winning eco-lodge presents a refuge for the tradition of the local tribal Lisu people. Built in customary Lisu style, but incorporating many western comforts, the lodge is a perfect place to unwind and chill out as well as offering both adventure and an insight to the extraordinary lives of the locals.
The lodge has just 24 double rooms each equipped with electricity, fans, mosquito nets and comfortable bedding as well as en-suite facilities with hot water.
The food is all locally produced, served in local fashion on low tables and delicious northern Thai banquet in style. It is served on the lodge's large open veranda overlooking the lush fields, a truly spectacular setting!
This exotic corner of the world is rich in natural and cultural diversity, and its mild hill country climate makes it ideal for hiking. Our itineraries range from one to four days including the following activities: trekking, elephant riding through bamboo forests and rivers, bamboo or rubber rafting along scenic rivers and mountain biking. A stay at Lisu Lodge can be combined with longer itineraries visiting other local tribes such as the Akha and Hmong.
Of the many trekking lodges in Northern Thailand Lisu Lodge, in our opinion, is the best in terms of comfort, location and overall experience. If you would prefer to stay in more remote areas please let us know as there are other options but please bear in mind that in general, the more remote you get the more concession to home comforts you will have to make!
Most villages are happy to welcome western tourists, as we provide them with an interesting diversion in their own lives and as long as we are polite and respectful, we are unlikely to cause offence.
This is just one of the hotels that we recommend in this area. If your favourite is not featured just let your consultant know - we will be happy to book it for you!
