Zazen draws inspiration from the Japanese word meaning “to find inner peace”. It is situated on the western end of Bo Phut beach tucked away in the quieter northern point of the island. The Fisherman’s Village with its many boutique shops, coffee houses and restaurants is only a few minutes away.
Each room of the 25 rooms is designed like a small and elegant Thai home with dual layer wooden and terra-cotta tiled floors, wide glass-fronted doors and a large veranda overlooking the beach or gardens. Each residence comes equipped with the latest technological amenities, ranging from high definition flat screen TVs, i-Pod, DVD players and free wireless internet access, keeping you in-touch, up-to-date and entertained! The Garden Deluxe Bungalows can be a little dark so we recommend spending the little extra for the Garden Villa or Beachfront options.
These stylish technological innovations have been unassumingly integrated into the roomy and comfortable living space. Leather furniture, attractive art from Asia, the softest silks and soothing, harmonious colour combine to create a sensation of deep relaxation. Oversized beds are dressed with premium natural cotton sheets and soft fluffy pillows over thick, supportive mattresses. Spacious bathrooms feature wide, embracing mirrors and a rain shower bathed in unobstructed sun light.
As well as the fact Zazen is a small friendly resort in a great spot another reason for choosing to stay here is the restaurant! Booking is highly recommended as the locals on the island have discovered it and dining at Zazen is the highlight of many peoples holiday! The dining area is right on the waters edge, raised on its own sea wall platform, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. There is the option of indoor or outdoor so please state your preference when booking. The cuisine can only be described in the often overused term “East meets West” and uses only the finest ingredients available, drawing on an extensive knowledge of herbs and health conscious techniques, to present a menu which is both rich in taste and enticing in originality.
The small spa offers a vast array of treatments in a designated setting, poolside or on the beach and will cater for most needs. They also offer special spa packages where a variety of treatments can be taken over a number of days. Guests can play tennis or golf at the nearby Santiburi Resort.
In our opinion the resort is perfect for those who have backpacked in the past but who now like a touch of luxury in small, quiet boutique properties but without the stuffy five star service and atmosphere. Zazen is a great place to kick back and relax but is near enough to the Fisherman’s Village and Chaweng Beach to head out for a big night or wide choice of restaurants if you so desire!
