Phuket
Thailand’s largest and best known holiday island is Phuket, and it is the most popular beach escape in the region attracting many thousands each year with its award winning resorts. There are many beaches and literally hundreds of great quality hotels to choose from. Phuket is a fantastic destination for those who want to combine great beaches, fabulous restaurants, lively nightlife all mixed with many of the comforts you are familiar with at home. However, for those looking for a tropical island escape Phuket maybe a bit too overdeveloped.
Phuket is also one of Asia’s premier yachting destinations and the annual Kings Cup Regatta, held in December, attracts international yachting crowds from across the globe. The island is without doubt the most prosperous region with tourism being the number one earner but the island also takes great earnings from tin mining and rubber production. In spite of this commercial aspect the island has retained its divergent culture stemming from its time as a major trading port, and the influence of peoples from the Middle East, China, India, and Portugal are still evident.
Phuket has many dive operations that head to sites near Phi Phi, Krabi and Koh Lanta as well as a whole host of live aboard dive boat options.
There are also a number of easily accessible golf courses on the island.
