Trekking in Tibet

There is some remarkable trekking in Tibet and there could be little disagreement if we argue that it's possibly the world's best high altitude trekking. We must however immediately stress that altitude is an issue and that no-one of any age or fitness level should under-estimate the effects of altitude and that all of these treks are without vehicular access. We supply all equipment along with local staff for carrying all the equipment, cooking, safety and guiding. Our partner’s local office in Lhasa is acknowledged as being the leader in both trekking and white-water rafting.

Weather-wise May, June and September are probably the best months as April and October risk cold nights whilst July and August run the risk of wet weather.

The walk between Ganden and Samye Monasteries
Between two of Tibet's major Monasteries lies a 4 to 5 day trek that takes in lakes, meadows, alpine forests and 2 passes with highest point being Shug-La Pass at 5,250 meters. This is one of Tibet's most popular treks.

The walk from Shalu to Nartang
From Shalu Monastery this easier and shorter trek (2 to 3 days) takes in canyons and some small villages. The highest pass is Char-la Pass at 4,600 meters.

Everest Base Camp
Is a 3 to 4 day trek with the highest altitude being the crossing of Nam-La Pass at 5,300 meters and is only recommended to experienced high altitude trekkers who enjoy the wilderness experience. At Everest we can also offer a stunning and very challenging 10 day trek which is rarely offered by other companies and which has its trailhead at Kharta taking you over a pass and directly below the majestic faces of Chomolonzo and Makalu into the lap of Everest and Lhotse. The highest camp at Pethang Ringmo Meadows is surrounded by the world's highest peaks.
