If you are the type of person that loves the old grandeur of colonial hotels then you will love Sofitel Metropole Hanoi. Arriving at this hotel is like arriving on to a movie set. The lobby with its stunning reception desk, with the original dark wooden boxes behind the desk and the staff in their traditional uniforms….you will be whisked back in time and reminded that you are truly experiencing a piece of history.
Located in the city centre close to the Hoan Kiem Lake and originally built in 1901, the hotel now features 2 wings. The Historic Wing is the original building and whilst the newer Opera Wing has also been designed in classical fashion, if you are looking for the unique and traditional then the Historic Wing is our recommendation.
Along with the new wing, there is also now a luxurious Spa and the hotel also features a swimming pool and fitness centre. Dining in the traditional French Le Beaulieu is highly recommended, even if you are not staying at the hotel.
The service at Sofitel Metropole Hotel is a wonderful blend of traditional Vietnamese and European luxury. Needless to say, their past guest list reads like an Oscars Hall of Fame with names like Somerset Maugham, Noel Coward and Charlie Chaplin (he spent his honeymoon here) – no wonder this hotel is celebrated world-wide and has been awarded some of the industry’s most prestigious awards (making Conde Nast’s Gold List is no small achievement).
