Saigon to Nha Trang
This is the first public “luxury” train in Vietnam and it runs daily between Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and the famous beach resort town of Nha Trang on a daily basis. It departs Saigon at 06.15 and arrives in Nha Trang at 13.33 and the return journey departs at 14.55 and arrives back in Saigon at 23.18 (times subject to change without prior notice).
The train has private ticket counters and departure lounges in both Nha Trang and Saigon which are both clean and efficient – something not generally synonymous with Vietnamese train stations – as well as information boards in English, an international cafe and comfortable seating.
The train has 10 carriages, each fully air-conditioned and equipped with comfortable adjustable seats. There are a number different classes but Oasis Travel only recommend the 5 Star Club Carriages.
Other carriages include a dining car that serves decent quality local and international dishes as well as several bars and snack options serving soft and alcoholic drinks and ice cream. Luggage can be securely stowed giving freedom to explore the train should you wish. The bathroom facilities are reasonable - in line with international airline standards.
There are various other benefits available such as free game machines, LCD televisions, free newspapers and magazines (in both Vietnamese and English), massage chairs etc etc. How long these benefits will continue for is anyone’s guess and are subject to change at any time and without prior notice.
Apart from the Victoria Carriages that run between Hanoi and Sapa (v. v.) this is the best option for train travel in Vietnam. Whilst it is far from being the Eastern & Oriental Express it is the most luxurious public train in the country and a pleasant way to avoid flying between these two great destinations.
