Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon as it is still often referred to as, is the beating heart of Vietnam. It is the largest, noisiest and busiest city and nothing quite prepares you for the crush of scooters and motorbikes at rush hour all set against a back drop of new gleaming skyscrapers! While there are plenty of interesting colonial sites such as the Presidential Palace, the Opera House and the Cathedral it is the wealth of bars, restaurants and shops that are the main attraction to most. The most famous and poplar area to visit is known as Cholon, which is the centre of the Chinese community and is home to Binh Tay market where you will find everything from Chinese herbs to tailors. Once known as “The Pearl of the Orient” the new Ho Chi Minh City will delight and surprise visitors with its vitality and diversity.
