Antarctica - DESTINATIONS & HOTELS
Sistership to the MV Hondius and purpose built for Polar cruises, the 358 ft MV Janssonius is among the most technologically advanced expedition ships operating in the frozen south.
Named after the Dutch cartographer Jans Jonssonius, the ship’s “1A-Super” ice-strengthened hull allows it to push far deeper into ice-choked channels than its contemporaries all while maintaining its commitment to sustainability via a flexible power management system to keep fuel efficiency high and CO2 emissions low.
For poor sailors, the ship’s stabilizers ensure as smooth a cruise as possible while its eco-credentials are further reflected in its use of LED lighting, steam heat and biodegradable paints and lubricants. Warmly furnished throughout with classic contemporary décor, the ship is spread across 5 decks with spacious communal areas that include a large observation lounge and separate lecture room for presentations.
The MV Janssonius offers comfortable accommodation for 170 passengers in 8 categories that range from porthole, window and superior cabins through to grand suites with private balconies – perfect for enjoying a private moment alone amidst the magnificent landscapes.
The ship offers a range of 11-28 day voyages including exciting base-camp expeditions replete with hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking and even camping. Expeditions are led by highly experienced staff and carry a powerful fleet of Zodiacs to manage the passenger numbers.
The MV Janssonius represents the future of polar cruising offering an ideal marriage of comfort, power and sustainability.
