Purpose built for polar extremes, the RCGS Resolute is one of the latest additions to the Antarctic fleet, a flagship 400ft expedition ship with the highest ice-classification (Lloyds 1AS). This coupled with stability, strength and superior speed allows it to maximise passenger time in each landing spot and, better still, push deeper into remote, frozen channels beyond the reach of other vessels.
Engineering aside, the Resolute has upped the ante in terms of passenger experience and comfort. Spacious outer decks provide 360 degree viewing platforms for the captivating wildlife and landscapes while a salt-water plunge pool, large relaxation deck, hot water jacuzzi and wellness centre add a touch of luxury to each voyage. Throw in observation lounges, a theatre style presentation room, multimedia room, and mobile laboratory, there is so much to explore both on and off the ship.
There are 6 different cabin categories, all with outside views through either port-holes or picture windows and sectional lounge quarters where you can find a quiet nook to read or catch up on your Antarctic log. Space is exceptional for expedition vessels: 22m² for entry level cabins while you can enjoy twice that again if you upgrade to one of the palatial suites.
The Resolute offers a full meal service with buffet breakfast and lunches and a five course a la carte menu option for dinner.
True, the Resolute is one of the larger expedition ships with a capacity of 148 passengers, but the shore visits are carefully managed and sit amidst a wider range of excursions and activity programmes on offer.
