Modes of transport
Roads
Driving is on the right. All major highways are paved, but few have decent shoulders and painted dividing lines. Speed bumps are common but not all are marked.
Public transport
Buses
Most public travel in Belize is done by bus. All towns are serviced by one or more of a bewildering variety of private bus services, and you can usually flag down a bus on the highway.
Health Precautions
Medical facilities in Belize are not of the highest standard ā make sure to check your travel insurance covers major medical emergencies, hospitalization and evacuation.
Insect-borne diseases, including chikungunya and malaria, occur in Belize. Check your accommodation is insect-proof. Use insect repellent.
Food and Drink
Belize’s National cuisine is rice and beans with chicken or fish; in the main tourist resorts and cities you’ll find a good range of international food.
Money
The Belizean dollar (BZ$) is pegged to the US dollar at two to one (BZ$1 = US$0.50). Nearly every business in Belize accepts US dollars and prices are often quoted in US dollars at resorts and hotels ā always check in advance whether you’re paying in Belize dollars or US dollars.
ATMs are widely available; credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and shops.

Qantas fly daily to Los Angeles and or Dallas then connect directly to Belize City.
