Located in a remote, wooded valley in the heart of the Aravalli hills en route from Jodhpur to Udaipur sits India’s largest and most important Jain Temples at Ranakpur. The temples are truly breathtaking boasting some of the country’s most intricate architecture. The main temple was built in 1439 and is an incredible white marble building featuring 29 halls supported by an incredible 1444 pillars. In our opinion a worthwhile stop en-route to Udaipur or as a full day excursion not just to view the magnificent temples but to gain an insight into one of India’s most fascinating religious groups.
