Ancient Dosso, one of the few remaining relics of the pre-colonial era of Niger, is an important crossroads that connects Niamey to Benin and Nigeria.

This one-time epicentre of the Dosso Kingdom, the state that first commanded the loyalty of all the tribes in the south-western corner of the country, is alive with heritage and traditions.

Today the town is a fusion of the new and old, with low-rise concrete buildings mixing with ramshackle yurts. The marketplace bustles with life, as groaning camels move in and out of the dusty streets.
