It comes as no surprise that a country so well known for its tea is home to vast rolling hills of picturesque tea plantations. Located in Sri Lanka’s central highlands the area offers a refreshing climate and is the perfect spot to spend a relaxing few days in one of the areas beautiful boutique properties – many of which were original tea planter’s bungalows that have been converted into luxury accommodation. As well as great walking opportunities the area is home to a number of tea factories that can be visited and provide a comprehensive insight into the whole tea production process. The township of Nuwara Eliya itself has a quintessential English countryside feel about it and even features the traditional red telephone boxes! Highlights of the town include Victoria Park which boasts immaculately manicured gardens, visits are especially worthwhile during the months of March to May and August, September where the lawns are like a multi coloured tapestry – truly spectacular!
